How to maintain a steam boiler
If you own a steam boiler, there are things that you would need to do to keep this boiler in great condition. A lack of maintenance could mean a swift end for your ever-valuable steam boiler. If you are unsure of what maintenance to perform, we’re here to help. Here are a few ways for you to maintain your steam boiler:
Drain the water
In certain industries, steam boilers run frequently. The constant back and forth of steam and water between parts of the system could cause mud and other contaminants to sit at the bottom of your boiler. In order to avoid this from happening, or to avoid these contaminants from causing damage to your steam boiler, you will need to drain it. Once it is drained, it can then be replaced by clean water that will allow the steam boiler system to run quickly and efficiently.
Maintain water levels
Each steam boiler will have a gauge glass. This gauge glass will allow you to see the water levels inside your steam boiler. The best level for the water can be seen at the halfway point of your gauge glass. Anything more or less than this could indicate a problem, such as a leak or an open valve.
Insulation
For the steam boiler to maintain a constant temperature without overheating, there is a thermal insulation layer within the boiler. If this layer is damaged, it could lead to a loss of heat, creating an inefficient flow of steam and increasing the risk of operational safety hazards. This layer should be checked for any wear and tear during the maintenance process.
