Boilers are crucial features for most homes and invaluable assets for many homeowners all over the world. Above all, they’re essential for heating your home’s water, as well as a few other case-specific applications. As such, it’s important that you know how to keep your boiler in good condition, which means knowing how long a boiler lasts.

In this blog, we’re going to take a look at the average life expectancy of a typical boiler, as well as the steps you can take to ensure that your boiler remains in good shape.

So, how long do boilers last?

On average, boilers have a 10-15-year life expectancy. To keep your boiler going for the longest possible time, you should maintain it as regularly as is necessary. Here’s a list of some of the things you can do to maintain your boiler:

Get a reliable boiler

First thing’s first, you should never opt for a faulty boiler just because of the situational or financial convenience. Before investing in a boiler, you should make sure that the brands you have to choose from are reliable and can last you in the long run – get in touch with us to learn more.

Choose a boiler that suits your specific needs

When you’re looking for the boiler for your own needs, you need to make sure that it’s the right size (or has the right kW output). If you choose one that’s too small, it could break down more frequently because of overload, thus reducing its lifespan. If you get one that’s too big however, you may find yourself paying unnecessarily high electricity bills.

Arrange an annual servicing

Just like your car, boilers also need servicing to keep it in tip-top shape. Most boilers sold directly from the manufacturer often come with warranties; if yours doesn’t, you’ll need to find a qualified professional to service your boiler.

If your boiler is malfunction, arrange for repairs ASAP

Procrastinating repair work for your boiler after it malfunctions will just make things difficult for you and your device. While your boiler’s condition worsens through continual use in the midst of a malfunction, you’ll find yourself having to spend more money on repairs when you finally decide to get it fixed.

If you’d like to learn more about effectively caring for your boiler, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us – we’re always ready to help!

When winter strokes, you’ll want to protect you and your family from the harsh cold with a central heating system. When it comes to heating, whether it’s household or for a business, there are generally two types of heating systems – or fuels – that can give you the warmth you need: electricity and gas.

In this blog, we’re going to briefly explore these two heating systems to determine which is the most efficient and cheapest central heating system. We hope this helps you in your search for an effective and affordable heating system.

Electricity vs gas: which is the better heating system?

Before we start comparing the two, we first need to understand a few aspects of both types of central heating systems. Homeowners have tw0 options if they opt for gas heating: natural gas, which is drawn through a network of pipes, and liquid petroleum gas (LPG), which is delivered in gas bottles of varying sizes that need to be replaced at different times.

While gas can be affordable and efficient, it’s only good for water heating, space heating, cooking and clothes drying, making it less versatile as its electric counterpart, which offers several more applicational benefits considering its nature and the fact that every home needs electricity.

Soo, while gas may be the better option for specific applications, electricity offers homeowners more options when it comes to central heating. Let’s compare these two types of heating systems a little more closely.

Electricity vs gas: pros and cons

To determine which of the two systems is ideal for the average home, we’re going to list out the pros and cons for both energy sources in the categories of water heating, stove top heating, space heating, oven heating, and laundry drying.

Water heating

Gas is more expensive to purchase and install, but is much cheaper in the long run compared to electricity. Since water heating uses a lot of energy, you’ll find yourself spending less on this type of heating if you use gas as opposed to electricity.

Electric water heating is cheap to set up, but will cost you an arm and a leg in the long run. Conserving electricity for electrical water heating is also more of a hassle than it is with gas water heating.

Stove top heating

In a nutshell, gas stoves are quicker and levels more efficient than their electrical counterparts. They are considerably more expensive than electric stoves, but more than make up for it through their efficiency. While electric countertops may be more convenient to purchase and setup, gas stoves are ideal for people who appreciate a long-term cost-effective solution.

Space heating

Gas heaters are quick and to the point, much more so than electrical heaters. They offer almost immediate and sustained warmth, even during load shedding, but lack in their need for occasional (sometimes regular) replacement. Gas heaters, especially those that utilise LPG are extremely efficient and cost-effective, but less affordable than electrical heaters.

Oven heating

When it comes to ovens, gas heating is more expensive but offers a speed and greater heat control. Because ovens use loads of energy, gas ovens offer an appreciable long-term savings plan that their electrical counterparts can’t match. Electric stoves on the other hand, while more readily available and customisable, are more expensive to run.

Conclusion

Now that we have a better idea of what both types of central heating systems offer, it’s fair to say that both options have their own benefits and disadvantages. While electrical heating systems are cheaper to purchase and install, gas heating systems offer a much more lucrative long-term financial benefit that can’t be ignored. We’d love to know which of these two heating systems you think is best – get in touch with us and share your thoughts!

One of the most common home heating systems is a boiler, and that’s especially true for older houses in the colder regions. Boilers heat water, and then distribute hot steam or hot water to the rooms through a series of pipes to heat the home. The steam is sent to the radiators, while hot water flows to the radiators or radiant heating systems. Boilers are fuelled by natural gas, heating oil, propane, electricity or a biodiesel-oil blend. New systems are very energy efficient, with efficiencies as high as 98.5 percent.

Condensing Vs. Non-Condensing

All boilers are either condensing or non-condensing. A condensing boiler concentrates water vapour produced in the heating process, and uses waste heat to preheat cold water entering the boiler. Condensing boilers are extremely energy efficient because they can provide ample heat while operating at lower temperatures.

Non-condensing boilers typically operate at higher temperatures, and some heat ends up being vented outside. Non-condensing boilers are 80 percent to 88 percent efficient, while condensing boilers have efficiencies greater than 88 percent.

Sealed Combustion Vs. Non-Sealed Combustion

Boilers are either sealed-combustion or non-sealed combustion units. You should buy one that is sealed combustion because it brings outside air into the burner and directs exhaust gases outside. Non-sealed combustion boilers draw heated air in and then send it up the chimney, wasting the energy used to heat the air. Also, sealed-combustion boilers won’t introduce dangerous gases into your home.

Over recent years, steam cleaning has become a very popular choice for cleaning various products. However, its popularity has not come without scepticism. Many individuals are curious as to whether steam cleaning lives up to its hype, and we’re here to tell you why it does:

Why is it effective?

Steam cleaning is considered an incredibly effective way to clean a variety of surfaces. Its effectiveness stems from the fact that the steam used in this cleaning process is of an incredibly high temperature. It is a well-known fact that most types of bacteria are incredibly intolerant of high temperatures. What this means is that steam cleaners can be used to effectively remove the bacteria off surfaces. Research has been conducted on this topic and has shown that surfaces cleaned by steam cleaners present minimal bacteria after the cleaning process has been completed.

Other benefits

Not only is steam cleaning a highly effective form of cleaning, but it also has numerous other benefits. One of these benefits is its safety. Steam cleaning is considered a safe way to clean areas as this process of cleaning does not include the use of harsh chemicals. This makes it safe for use in areas such as veterinary clinics and private and commercial kitchens. The lack of chemicals in the cleaning process is also beneficial due to the reduced expenses. These reduced expenses are part of the reason why this cleaning product has become popular in a variety of industries. These industries include the hospitality industry, medical industry, automotive industry and much more.

Electric process heaters are quickly becoming a preferred alternative to fuel and combustion heaters due to their numerous advantages. With easy access and ready availability of electricity, dependence on traditional natural resources for heating is slowly fading away. Some of the advantages of electric power for immersion heaters include safety, efficiency, greater control and precision, eco-friendliness and capable of operating at higher temperatures.

Safety

Electric process heaters are certainly safer to use. Fuel is not as stable as electricity. It is more vulnerable to fire or combustion. Electric process heaters come with control boxes that are equipped according to safety needs. They can simply protect workers from coming into contact with wires, or can even use explosion proof terminal boxes.

Efficient and Economical

Electricity, as a power source, is much more efficient. A fuel-based immersion heater is only 32% – 38% efficient where only a third of the heat produced is actually passed on to the medium. On the other hand, electric process heaters are 100% efficient. Combine this efficiency with the rising cost of fuels, and electricity becomes an even more economical option. Also, electric process heaters are less expensive to maintain. Combustion adds wear and tear to an immersion heater that you simply don’t get with electricity. That means electric heaters require servicing and maintenance less often, as well, the damage is less common. They also have longer life spans, so they do not need to be replaced as often.

Greater control

Electricity has a high degree of control. Combined with automation and temperature control panels, specific temperatures and ranges can be reached and maintained reliably. Thermostat or automatic shut off switches prevent overheating and protect processes.

Eco-Friendly

Electric process heaters are not only efficient, but also eco-friendly. Electricity produces no harmful emissions culminating in a smaller ecological footprint.

High-Temperature Capabilities

Electric process heaters can reach higher temperatures than fuel heaters. That makes them capable of performing tasks other heaters cannot. Being able to reach and maintain operation at high temperatures gives electric process heaters a huge advantage over combustion heaters.

As the name suggests, electric process heaters use electricity to heat the fluid within the system. There are a few different types of electric process heaters that can be used for various applications. Read about the different types of electric process heaters below:

Immersion

Immersion heaters are electric process heaters that immerse the electric element into the fluid in the system, making direct contact with the fluid. This technique is highly beneficial as there is little to no waste of energy because almost all the electricity is converted into heat that is then used to regulate the temperature of fluid in a system.

Electric thermal fluid heater

There is a type of electric process heater known as an electric thermal fluid heater. These heating systems use a method known as indirect heating in order to heat the fluid within the process heaters system. This technique involves the use of a secondary fluid, such as water or thermal oil, that transfers the heat to the process fluid. Closed systems will often use processes such as this to heat fluids.

Circulation

A circulation heater is a type of electric process heater that has a heating element within the tube which the fluid passes over. These electric heating systems work well in enclosed systems and can be designed in order to meet the needs of a unique system.

These boilers can also be described as automated in-line process heaters due to their similarities. Read more about process heaters below:

Purpose

Process heaters, also known as fire heaters, have many different purposes, depending on the type of process heater being used. An in-line process heater – the type of heater that can be compared to our very own TH hot water boiler – heats fluids, such as water and oil, flowing through an open system; however, there are some process heaters that are used to maintain the heat of circulating fluids in a closed system.

The heating method

There are two different ways for process heaters to provide open and closed systems with the necessary heat: indirect and direct immersion. Indirect immersion heats the fluids through convection while direct immersion process heaters immerses the main heating element directly into the fluid being heated. The direct immersion method is used for when the fluid is in circulation.

The applications

Process heaters can be used for many different applications including temperature regulation in water cooled engines, steam heating, processing corrosive solutions and so much more. These high-quality machines can be used in various types of cleaning equipment, including steam cleaners, as well as areas of the home such as the shower or bath.

Steam cleaners can be used for several different purposes. These nifty products have the ability to use certain types of steam to clean the most unexpected items. If you aren’t sure what steam cleaners are capable of, read about a few of their uses below:

Engines

Over time, grease and dirt can build up on the interior and exterior of an engine. Using a steam cleaner is a great way to effectively remove the grease and grime, restoring the engine back to its original condition. Steam cleaners can perform the task of cleaning on a wide variety of engines.

Commercial kitchens

As we all know, commercial kitchens can end up looking incredibly grubby after a single day of hard work. To ensure that commercial kitchens are always clean and that they meet the necessary regulatory standards, steam cleaners are often used to clean them. These cleaners are used to remove all the grease that could contaminate future meals created in the kitchen. The great thing about steam cleaners is that they are very useful when it comes to getting into any crevices around the kitchen.

Upholstery

Steam cleaners can be used for numerous projects, including making your upholstered furniture look brand new. Steam cleaners are ideal for cleaning furniture as they are able to flush out any dirt that has settled inside of the material.

Grout

The grout in your shower, floor and garden tiles can become quite unsightly if it is not tended to. Thankfully, steam cleaners are highly reliable when it comes to removing dirt from grout. These cleaners can be used to efficiently rid your grouting – regardless of where it is situated – of any type of build-up.

In the era of Covid-19, sanitation and hygiene are more important than ever. There are many ways to sanitise both yourself and the things that you interact with daily. One of those methods is steam cleaning, an effective and non-toxic method of cleaning and sanitising the surfaces in your home and workplace.

Steam and fogging machines are the perfect low-cost supplements to any cleaning effort. These machines effectively disperse disinfectants in the form of fog or steam – they can help kill up to 99% of germs and bacteria in any indoor environment.

Steam cleaners are versatile machines that give you the results you need when fumigating your space. In this blog, we’ll take a closer look at how these devices work and what you should consider when buying a steam cleaner

How do steam cleaners work?

Steamers generally convert electrical energy into heat, which is then used to vaporise the disinfectant and prepare it for dissemination. Once blown out of the machine, the steam’s molecules penetrate a surface’s pores to force out any unwanted contaminants such as dirt and grease – all using plain water.

Uses of steam cleaners

Steam cleaners can be used on several household surfaces, including (but not limited to):

Tiled floors

Hardwood floors

Carpets

Sinks

Tubs

Grills

Stove tops

Mattresses

Upholstery

Steam cleaners are versatile and can be used in several indoor settings such as workspaces, schools, stores, restaurants and many more. If you’re interested in getting your hands on a quality steam cleaner, get in touch with us today!

Things to consider when buying a steam cleaner

While your considerations should be based on your current situation, here are a few basic things you should think about when buying a steam cleaner:

Functions

Different applications may require different attachments, so make sure you get the right add-ons when buying your steamer.

Capacity

The size of the tank means the difference between having to refill it every few minutes while cleaning or steaming everything in one or two rounds. The bigger the tank, the more seamless the steaming.

Heat

For an effective sanitation, a steamer should be able to heat water up to a minimum of 200 degrees Celsius. The hotter the machine, the drier the steam, which means less probability of damaging certain surfaces with excess water.

Price

You need to get what you’re paying for, no matter the circumstance. When buying a steamer, you should always keep in mind that the higher the price, the better the package should be. That means that expensive machines should come with better customer service, product life and a good warranty.
